Resolved QuestionI heard that the epidural hurts really bad is there any pain medications that they can give through an iv that's just as strong ?
I am 16 and due within the next two weeks, I am horrible with pain so I have to figure this out!!

While insertion is somewhat uncomfortable, it is NOT usually painful (unless you have a really awful anesthesiologist!), and by the time your contractions are strong enough to need one, you won't really care about the discomfort.
The epidural is both the most effective AND the safest method of medical pain relief. IV narcotics are an option, but they don't really stop the
pain, just dull it a little, and they can only be used fairly early in labor. (If given too close to delivery, they can make baby very sleepy, even cause him difficulties breathing.)
